This is who “I am”.

I want to share with you this poem I wrote after reading a very controversial line in this book called “The essence of transformational coaching”*translated by Robert Bridgemen third edition published in May 2021.

In this book, Bridgeman says that: everything that we add to the “I am” we are NOT. We are NOT our body, our emotions, our thoughts and soul. All these things reside in you, you aren’t any of these. Therefore, you can change or influence all of them.

When I read this phrase, it made me think. I started asking myself:

  • Where I am standing now?
  • How do I experience life right now?
  • How am I growing at this precise stage of my life?

I wondered if I was letting my thoughts, emotions, appearance and how I felt deep inside define who I am. So after reflecting for a long moment, I started writing this poem. I wanted to express the insights I gained from this book in a poem.

I AM

I am what I Am.

I am smart if I want.

I am courageous if I feel so.

I am friendly if I want, I am beautiful if I believe so.

I am fearless in all my doings.

I am what I am.

I am one with the Almighty.

I am not my thoughts, nor my feelings.

I am not my body, nor my soul.

I am a passenger in this world.

I am travelling through life.

In the meantime, my body is a way of transportation, my mind a GPS and my feelings are an admonition.

I am what I am.

I am nor this or that.

I am what I say and believe that I am.
